This World Needs Some Peace

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

The world needs peace. The word peace is translated Shalom and is common in most languages.

We are entering the Christmas season and the words we are using for 2020 don’t seem to match with PEACE. Peace means an absence of war. Do you look at the state of the world, your life, politics, the Church, or even the social issues and wonder, “Where is the peace?” The division in our nation, the anxieties people are feeling, and the hurt in this world seems too much to bear. Yet, the God we serve is the giver of PERFECT peace! In the Bible they use the word peace sometimes to mean the absence of conflict, but more often talks about the presence of wholeness. A lot of times I wonder if God is going to restore this broken world or if I will have to wait until Heaven.

I personally feel we can break through this division by shining the light of Jesus into these tough situations. God desires healing, hope, and reconciliation. To reconcile and bring healing means shalom or peace. We need to see the problems of our world as fleeting and cling to the promises of Heaven.

God made a covenant of PEACE. He gives us His peace and restores wholeness to broken relationships through His death and resurrection.

It says in Romans 5: 1 “Therefore since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.”

So I challenge you. Take time to turn off the noise and focus on the Good News, the greatest news ever. That Jesus is the Savior of the World. That He calls us friend, and that he came to this world to save us. He came as a baby and defeated sin. Take time to experience His peace today.
