You Are Not Alone

You are not alone.

Four words that can be so easy to read.

Four words that can be so hard to believe.

The lie starts out as slight whisper lurking around, finding the perfect time to jump out at you. The lie gets bolder as it sees itself winning the battle in your mind. It starts speaking to you more and more. It gets bolder and bolder in its actions, not even trying to hide as it screams loudly in your face.

You walk around trying to ignore the lie. With each step the lie gets louder and you start to question things. “Am I alone? I don’t think I am. No, no I’m not.”

“You’re alone. You’re all by yourself in this.” It’s screaming in your head as you spin around trying to find balance.

“I am alone. I feel it. I keep spinning and spinning and cannot find anyone here with me.” You stand still, but your head keeps spinning in circles. Desperate for something to fight the lie with, but you grasp at the air coming up with nothing.

The feelings of despair fill your heart and mind. The feelings of loneliness fill your being.

Now what?

What do you do?

What to do is so easy to read when you’re not feeling alone. But requires a battle when you are.

Prepare your heart and mind for battle before the battle comes. Equip yourself with the sword of TRUTH to fight the lie.

God’s word is that sword of truth.

Remind yourself and that lie exactly “what’s up”.

And here’s “what’s up”—

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9)

Scream in that lies face: THE LORD IS WITH ME WHEREVER I GO. The truth is…I AM NOT ALONE!!

I will not leave you or abandon you. (Joshua 1:5)

Scream in that lies face: THE LORD WILL NOT LEAVE OR ABANDON ME!! The truth is…I AM NOT ALONE!!

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

Scream in that lies face: THE LORD IS WITH ME! I DO NOT HAVE TO BE AFRAID! HE WILL HELP ME!! The truth is…I AM NOT ALONE!!

Again, these words are really easy to read when you feel the Lord right next to you. I know that. I’ve been there.

I’ve also been spinning around searching for the Lord as the enemy screams in my face. I’ve felt so alone I didn’t know how I could even stop spinning or what I would do if I did stop. I’ve believed the lie that the only way to stop the spinning is to stop my life. I’ve felt that alone.

The darkness surrounded me as I stood silently. And as I stood silently, light slowly started to shine. My heart remembered the promise of Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.”

My heart was still and it knew that God is God. He goes before me. He never leaves me. He is my strength.

My heart reminded me of the people God placed in my life. The friends that love me and that have been born for my times of trouble! Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Our brothers and sisters have been born and given to us for our times of adversity right alongside all the good times. The enemy would love for us to believe his lie of being alone to keep us away from each other. Remind yourself that your friend HAS BEEN BORN FOR YOU! (and you for them)

The next time you’re feeling alone I urge you to fight the lies with the words of God’s truth, first and foremost. Go to Him in prayer and repeat His truths into your life.

Then, seek out that person. You know the one, your “ride or die” person. The safe person you can say whatever to and they’re going to love you…and lead you in what the Lord says. They’re going to lead you back to the Lord if you need to be. They’re going to remind you of the truth of what God’s word says. They’re going to be there for you in your time of adversity.

If you feel like you don’t have “that” person. Seek out a safe pastor, mentor or counselor. Message ME!! ([email protected]) PLEASE find someone to speak truth into your life. The truth that YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!

If you are feeling so alone and feel like the only answer to stop that is to end your life, PLEASE do not!

It is not the only answer-even if it feels like it is-reach out to someone OR the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at: 800-273-8255
