He is Hovering

He is Hovering

Do you find yourself looking at the chaos that swirls around you and wonder, God, did you catch this? Do you know what’s going on here? I mean, really. It’s a bit of a crisis we’ve got going here.
Sometimes it’s hard to believe that our loving God hasn’t forgotten about our situation.

We pray for miracles. For babies to get well. For spirited youth who are “finding themselves” to look in a different direction. For the bills to get paid, the job to come, and the house to sell. For politicians and TV news anchors to just all be quiet for a moment. For the hurt to stop. For the relationship to heal.

We pray and ask and step out in obedience, and…nothing seems to change.

Know what I mean?

So.
If you are feeling discouraged and weary and wondering where God is in your messiness that never seems to get any better, may these words refresh your spirit and soothe your soul…

God is hovering.
Just as He did in the very beginning…
…and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. (Genesis 1:2)
He was waiting to bring something new out of something formless and empty and dark back then in the very beginning, and He continues to bring something new out of our formless and empty and dark situations today. (I love this so much!)

He is hovering.
Intentionally staying very close to you. Your son. Daughter. Mother. Father. Spouse. Home. Job situation. Financial worries. Test results.

We cannot assume that because we don’t see any changes, that change is not happening. We are only human.

But this God that we are trusting…HE is divine. He is God. His ways are not our ways.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Dear friend, God has not abandoned you. He has not deserted the one you care about so very much. He will never quit on you. He knows every detail about your situation. He hears your prayers and catches your tears. He sees you in your chaos and whispers, I’m here.

Knowing that this big, faithful, trustworthy God is moving in ways we cannot yet see, perhaps we can breathe a bit deeper. Relax our shoulders. Loosen our grip on trying to fix and control.

Because He knows what’s going on.
He is hovering.
