Sitting by Still Waters

Sitting by Still Waters

“Spring makes your spirit tingle with energy and bright optimism, like you swallowed a sunrise.”

Jennifer Dukes Lee writes those words in her beautiful book, Growing Slow: Lessons on Un-Hurrying your Heart from an Accidental Farm Girl.

Along with the refreshment that comes with the cool breezes and colored-once-again scenery, spring invites us to set aside the bulk and clutter and embrace simple and easy. Doesn’t it?

My heart and mind are leaning into slowing down. Finding a new rhythm that creates joy in the ordinary. A to-do list with maybe only one thing on it, with lots of time for walks, good books, conversations with friends, and … sitting.

He leads me besides still waters.
He restores my soul.

Those words are like a cool glass of water on thirsty lips. Or a warm lotion massaged into aching muscles.

Still waters … instead of crashing waves.
Being led … instead of being in charge.
Restoration … instead of destruction.

The deepest part of my being can’t refresh, renew, or restore when I’m going full tilt.

But let me sit in quietness and breathe for a bit.
No books. No TV. No computer. No busyness.

Restoration comes.

Psalm 62:5 says, “For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.”

Care to join me?
Sitting by still waters.
Being quiet. Settled.

Soaking in the sunrise.

Let’s do that this week.
