When you imagine God—our Creator, our Redeemer, the King of Glory—do you ever picture Him dancing?
It might feel almost irreverent at first. We’re used to thinking of God seated on His throne and robed in majesty. But what if I told you that Scripture paints a picture not just of a powerful and holy God, but also of a God who dances? And not just dances, but spins and leaps with joy!
That idea might feel strange at first… but it’s straight from Scripture.
Yes, our God is a dancing God.
Not in the way we might first imagine—not like a performance on stage or a celebration in a football end zone. His dance is not for show. It’s not choreographed for applause. It’s something far deeper, far more passionate, and intensely personal.
Yes, our God is a dancing God
And He dances OVER us.
Not because I say so, but because He says so.
In Zephaniah 3:17, we read something beautiful:
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
That word rejoice in Hebrew? It means to spin around, to leap, to skip with joy—like someone overcome with such deep emotion they simply cannot stand still. Like someone who is dancing. It’s the picture of a powerful God, overcome with love for His people, bursting into celebratory movement.
Let this sink in for a moment…God is in our midst, He is present—singing over us, spinning with delight, leaping with joy… because He loves us.
The same God who parted the Red Sea, who silenced storms, who conquered death—that God is dancing over YOU. Not just any dance, but a holy celebration. A divine tornado of love and joy. A mighty swirl of grace, shouting over us: “I am with you!”
The God of the universe—your Maker, your Savior—is not cold or distant. He isn’t watching your life from afar. He is in your midst. He is singing over YOU. And yes… He is dancing.
And if that sounds too good to be true, look again at His Word. Over and over, Scripture connects joy and dance—especially in the presence of God:
“You have turned my mourning into dancing…” (Psalm 30:11)
“Let them praise His name with dancing…” (Psalm 149:3)
“David danced before the Lord with all his might…” (2 Samuel 6:14)
“The young women will dance for joy…” (Jeremiah 31:13)
This isn’t about performance or spectacle. It’s about presence. About celebration. About the deep, overflowing love of God.
This isn’t a fairytale. It’s a promise.
And this joyful song and dance is not random—it flows from His very heart.
So yes, our God dances.
Not because of a touchdown.
Not for applause.
Not for performance.
But because He loves us with an everlasting love.
And friend—YOU were made in His image.
That means YOU were created for joy. For delight. For holy movement. Not just on the outside, but in the deepest places of your soul. You were made to dance too—not just with your feet, but with your heart.
With your prayers.
With your praise.
With the kind of inner leap that comes from knowing—really knowing—that you are deeply loved.
We may not be spinning through life like Disney princesses, but what if our souls began to dance again? I know… life can feel heavy. But what if we allowed joy to bubble up from deep within—not from perfect circumstances, but from the perfect love that surrounds us every single day? Because the truth is: God delights in you. Not some future version of you. Not the perfect version of you.
You, right now.
And you were made to respond to the presence of God with a heart that dances.
So…dance.
Dance with hope.
Dance with gratitude.
Dance with joy in your spirit—even if your day feels ordinary. Because the God who sees you, the God who loves you is right there with you.
Our God is a dancing God.
And today, sweet friend, remember…. He is dancing over YOU.
Blessings,
Elizabeth
