“Come, follow me,” Jesus said,“and I will send you out to fish for people.”- Matthew 4:19
You just ran into an old friend you haven’t seen in a while. They talk about how hard life has been, and they don’t know where to turn. You want to share the hope you have, when all of a sudden, you try to speak and it seems nothing is coming out. The fear creeps in and you think, “How can I overcome this?! I KNOW I love Jesus, but where is this fear coming from?!”
Before I continue, I just want to say thank you to Author and Speaker Larry Moyer who has grown and taught me in so many of these areas. I highly recommend his books “Show me how to share the Gospel” and “Free and Clear.” They have brought so much confidence.
Our theme verse for this year is Zephaniah 3:17 saying “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” We share, not out of guilt, but because Jesus delights in us, we can delight in others to share His truth boldly, with gentleness and respect! How? Peter and John say in Acts 4:29, “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. He supplies it.
We need to remember, Jesus changes hearts, not us. We just need to pray to be used and be on His team. Matthew 9:36 says how Jesus looks out at the people and has compassion, because He sees they were like sheep without a shepherd.
No matter how resistant someone might be to faith or events/miracles that took place in the Bible, they can’t deny this: Love. I am in Love with Jesus.
Example of My response: “The fact that Jesus can take a sinful, ugly heart like mine, and make me a new creation in Him, to genuinely Love others, even my enemies, and to know the true Love of Him dying for me, if you knew my heart and how He has transformed me when He saved me, you would realize that is more of a miracle than anything you listed that I definitely do believe happened in the Bible.”
They can’t deny the Love, and the LOVE is what changes hearts! Knowledge is so important, but Love is what transforms! The closer we get to the heart of Jesus, the closer and more we want to Love on the people He died for which means SHARING the GOSPEL, the GOOD NEWS! His heart bled for us, for the lost, and so should ours to the point of giving our lives for them at the risk of rejection and awkwardness. 1 John 4:18 tells us perfect Love drives out fear. So let’s share Jesus, not because we are not afraid, but because someone’s eternal salvation and our Love for them and for Jesus, overcomes the fear.
