Hope for a Hurting World

For someone who writes for a living, it’s strange to struggle to come up with words to describe the heartache of this week… of everything that has been leading up to this week. Pandemic, protests, injustice, fear, pain. Is Jesus on His way? One thing I do know: He is the only hope for our heartache. And God’s kingdom is meant to be a place of healing and unity.
“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” (John 17:22-23… those are Jesus’s words)
This photo was taken in my anchor town here in northeast Wisconsin. It helps to remember not all news is bad news.
For what it’s worth, I wrote my book Generous Love with this type of unity in mind. How can we approach and embrace others with the love of Christ, not regardless of but with respect for our differences? It’s not about being color blind (is there really such a thing?) but rather appreciating the diversity within God’s kingdom, knowing He created us each purposefully, loves us all deeply, and wants us to be united as His children at the cross. Generous Love is free on Kindle at the moment, and while it was written by a white girl who has grown up mostly in white communities, I thank you for your grace in the tension and hope you’ll see this message as an offering of hope and solidarity during some very painful times.
Better yet, let’s all focus on God’s Words, first and foremost. They are the only true hope and healing balm for a hurting world. Amen?
